The Google Chrome Password Manager is built into Chrome itself. This allows your web browser to create and save your passwords. With the proper settings this will also allow all devices logged in with the same google account to have access to these passwords. Allowing for a strong and unique password for all your logins and easily convenient to use on all of your devices. 

How to access the Password Manager

  1. Open Google Chrome

  2. In the upper right corner select the vertical ellipses

  3. The menu will open

    • On Desktop

      1. Hover over passwords and autofill

      2. Select Google Password Manager

    • On Mobile

      1. Tap on Settings, you may need to scroll down to find this

      2. Tap on Google Password Manager

How to review my password settings

These should be turned on to allow Google Password Manager to offer you secure passwords, Automatically log into websites that have saved passwords, and alert you when a password is found in a leak.


  1. Open Google Password Manager

  2. Select Settings

  3. Here you can configure the following

    • Password alerts (Mobile only)


For backup and cross device use of your password you will want to turn on the profile sync

  1. Open Google Chrome.

  2. In the upper right corner select the vertical ellipses.

  3. The menu will open

    • On Desktop

      1. Hover over your profile name 

      2. Select Sync

        • It may appear as “Sync is on” or “Sync if off”

      3. Click Manage what you sync

      4. Ensure passwords and passkeys are selected to sync

    • On Mobile

      1. Tap on Settings, you may need to scroll down to find this

      2. Tap sync

        • On or Off will appear underneath it

      3. Ensure passwords are selected to sync

How to create a strong password

With the setting “Offer to save passwords” turned on google will automatically offer you a strong password. For additional strength you could add a couple of extra random characters to the password offered.


Once you save the password with the site, Google Password Manager will then offer to save the username and password for you. Select to save the password and now you do not need to remember it any more.


How to view a saved password

  1. Open Google Password Manager

  2. Search for the site or username

    1. You can also scroll through the list of sites to find what you are looking for

  3. Find the username you are looking for

    1. select the eye icon to see the password

    2. Select the double page icon to copy the user name or password

    3. You can also make notes as needed here

How to manage saved passwords

  1. Open Google Password Manager

  2. Search for the site or username

    1. You can also scroll through the list of sites to find what you are looking for

  3. Find the username you are looking for

    1. You can take the following actions

      1. Edit the details of the username or password

      2. Delete the details for that username

      3. Share your password 

        1. DO NOT SHARE YOUR PASSWORDS WITH UNKNOWN SOURCES

How to manually add a password

  1. Open Google Password Manager

    • Desktop

      1. Click Add

    • Mobile

      1. Tap Add password

  2. Enter the site

    • Use the IP address for Routers

    • Select app is also an option on Mobile

  3. Enter the username

  4. Enter the Password

  5. Make any notes required

  6. Select Save

How to review breached or weak passwords

  1. Open Google Password Manager

  2. Select Checkup

    • A loading screen will appear while it checks the passwords

  3. Three categories will appear

    • Compromised Passwords

      1. These are passwords found in known data leaks

      2. Update these passwords as soon as possible 

      3. Enable two factor authentication for these accounts if possible

    • Reused Passwords

      1. These passwords all have been used for more than one login

      2. It is highly suggested to update the password for these sites as one password leak can compromise multiple accounts

    • Weak Passwords

      1. These passwords are not strong enough to meet current password standards

      2. It is highly suggested to update these passwords as they can easily be broken by hacker tools


You should be updating any leaked or weak passwords. If you have an overwhelming number of them, start by updating 5 passwords a day. Making the task more manageable.
